A Meaningful Sewing Kit
A Meaningful Sewing Kit
Last Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day, and for this event I needed some gifts for the special moms in our family.
My mother and my grandmother taught me at a very young age that no matter the occasion, the best gift is the one with a meaning, a message or something that will make it special and stay in our hearts forever.
With this in mind, I wanted to make a present that would be both meaningful and useful at the same time. As I sat in my office and looked around searching for ideas, trying to find what every woman needed to have, I realized that a “Sewing Kit” was like a “First Aid Kit” for fashion emergencies
.
So I went ahead and gathered pins & needles, threads, a measuring tape and mini scissors and repurposed some jelly jar lids to make the pin cushions with some pieces of leftover fabrics. My daughter chose the fabric for each mom depending on her personality.
I used a box from Einstein Bagels to cut the circle base, some foam and my glue gun.
When done, I placed all the items inside the glass jar, screwed the top on, added a nice ribbon and, for an extra-special-touch, I printed out some cute sayings, perfect for Mother’s Day, and attached them to the jar with a cute button and a string.
I was very pleased with the results and happy to say that The Sewing Kits were a total hit
and all the moms loved them!!!
Items that I used for this project: Mason Canning Jars – Ball (Walmart); Glue Gun – Surebonder; Foam sheet for cushions – Joann Fabrics; Sewing tools – Singer & Dritz; Heavy cardboard stock for printing – Michaels, Fabric Leftovers – my own.
